Super Visas
A super visa lets parents and grandparents visit their children or grandchildren for up to 5 years at a time. It’s a visa that provides multiple entries for a period up to 10 years. When you enter Canada, a border services officer will confirm how long you can stay. There are specific requirements for a super visa, including the need for medical insurance.
If you want to stay for 6 months or less, apply for a visitor visa.
If you apply on or after July 4, 2022
- You’ll be eligible for a stay up to 5 years at a time.
However, you may be able to benefit from the increase in length of stay for an application submitted before July 4, 2022:
To qualify, the applicant must meet the following requirements:
- be the parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada;
- be found admissible to Canada;
- have a written commitment of financial support from their child or grandchild in Canada who meets a certain economic threshold;
- prove that they have bought Canadian medical insurance coverage for at least one year;
- complete an immigration medical examination.
It is important to note that the super visa is still a temporary application.
If you hope to have your parents or grandparent stay in Canada permanently, you will need to submit a parental sponsorship application.
